Interconnection Application and Project Management Support
Navigating the interconnection process with transmission operators and grid operators can be a complex and time-sensitive task. Our team provides expert support throughout the entire interconnection application process for clients looking to connect new generation, transmission, or load resources to the grid. We specialize in the following RTO/ISO regions: CAISO, MISO, ERCOT, PJM, TVA, SPP, and Southern Company.
We provide comprehensive interconnection application support for projects across major ISOs. Our team specializes in 30% design deliverables, including collector system layout, reactive capability studies, capacitor bank sizing, and single-line diagram development. We also offer detailed model development using PSSE (standard and UDM models), PSLF, TSAT, and PSCAD to meet ISO requirements and streamline the interconnection process.
Finally, we offer ERCOT specific project management help to make sure you have everything you need to get your generation online in Texas.
Whether you’re submitting your first interconnection application or managing a portfolio of projects, we help ensure that your application is complete, compliant, and on track to meet critical deadlines.
Pre-Application Support
- Generator Size Optimization & Feasibility Studies: Our team conducts the necessary studies to evaluate the system impact of your proposed interconnection, including detailed transmission and generation assessments. This analysis informs preliminary estimates for interconnection facility and network upgrade costs, while also identifying potential cost risks if prior-queued projects withdraw from the queue.
- Application Preparation & Portal Support: We assist with the preparation and submission of all necessary application materials, including portal navigation and ensuring generator equipment compliance. We also provide clarity on the interconnection study process, expected timelines, and deposit requirements at each stage.
- Dynamic Modeling Package Delivery: We provide a comprehensive dynamic modeling package all created in house. We benchmark all PSSE, PSCAD, and TSAT formats as required by the Transmission Provider and meet the latest IEEE 2800, FERC 827, and RTO specific MQTs.
- Pre-Study Kickoff Participation: We attend and support the initial project kickoff meeting prior to the commencement of interconnection studies and communicate any initial risks found.
Decision Point Support
- Technical Review & Strategic Guidance: We analyze technical findings of study results and offer recommendations on potential next steps.
- Material Modifications: Need to change your POI location or equipment? We have the tools to complete Material Modification reports.
- Tariff Interpretation & Risk Assessment: We provide insight into relevant tariff language, with a focus on identifying financial exposure and understanding money at risk when moving on to the next phase of study. This will help you determine whether to downsize or withdraw your project throughout the interconnection process.
Interconnection Agreement (IA) Negotiation
- Contractual Advisory Services: We offer recommendations on proposed edits and negotiation strategies during the Interconnection Agreement phase.
Post-IA Support
- Ongoing Compliance & Testing: We provide ongoing guidance to ensure compliance after Commercial Operation Date (COD), including support for modification requests and performance of required model validation tests (see related service pages for details).
ERCOT Project Management
- Guidance on ERCOT Compliance Requirements: We guide your project through the Quarterly Stability Assessment, Commissioning Plan, and ERCOT New Generator Checklist (Parts 1–3: Energization, Synchronization, & Testing).
- Support Regulatory Processes: We assist with ERCOT Resource Entity (RE) Registration and inputting technical data into RIOO on time.
- Schedule Alignment: We review project schedules to ensure compliance with ERCOT milestone requirements.
- Stakeholder Coordination: We will participate in meetings with the TSP, ERCOT, EPC contractor, client, and QSE to discuss interconnection progress, checklist requirements, and scheduling.
Why Choose Us? Our team has extensive experience working with CAISO, MISO, ERCOT, PJM, TVA, SPP, and Southern Company, and we understand the unique requirements and regulations of each entity. We offer in-house expertise to guide you through logical decision-making during the interconnection process, ensure compliance with tariff rules and critical timelines, and maintain continuous regulatory adherence throughout the entire lifecycle of your generation project.
